Terms of Use

Last updated: 16 October 2026

1. The software

OpenClip is open-source software licensed under the MIT License. The license governs your rights to use, copy, modify and distribute the software. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.

2. No warranty

The software and this website are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

3. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the authors and contributors are not liable for any claim, damages, data loss or other liability arising from your use of, or inability to use, the software or website. By using this software, you agree that the authors are not liable for any issues, damages, or claims arising from its use.

4. Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for the videos you import and the clips you publish.
  • You must hold any rights, and obtain any consent required by law, before clipping and publishing recordings of other people, speech, or confidential or copyrighted material.
  • You are responsible for reviewing clips and captions before you publish them. Automatic transcription and clip suggestions can be wrong.
  • If you connect OpenClip to Claude or another AI assistant, what that assistant receives, and how it is handled, is governed by that service's own terms and privacy policy.

5. Early-stage software

OpenClip is in early alpha. Keep your original videos, save often, and expect bugs.

6. Trademarks

OpenClip is independent. Names such as "Apple", "macOS", "Claude", "Anthropic", "OpenAI" and "Whisper" belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility. No affiliation or endorsement is implied.

7. Third-party software

OpenClip includes third-party open-source components under their own licenses, listed in the third-party notices.

8. Changes

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest revision. Continued use means you accept the updated terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State in which the maintainer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
